HI, I’M LAUREN

I’m a lifelong gardener whose well-being has been transformed by turning my yard into a 1/4 acre urban farm. I recently left a 15 year career in advertising to help everyone in my city create beautiful, productive spaces that they love.

OUR CLIENT’S GARDENS

“the number of times i thought to myself today ‘i’m so glad i’m not doing this alone’ wAS A LOT OF TIMES”

Meghan L.

“Lauren showed us how fulfilling and doable home gardening is. She helped us unlock a part of our yard to dedicate to growing our own fruits and vegetables.

We now drink our morning coffee beside our garden, harvest fresh produce regularly with our young girls, and cook tasty meals more often.

It's completely changed the rhythms of our home for the better.”

Chase + Lauren R.

“Lauren made a daunting subject fun and approachable. Her class introduced me to topics I’ve never been able to tackle on my own even as a lifelong gardener.”

“10/10 absolutely recommend.”

Caroline E.

“Lauren is the best!

She has been fantastic to work with and supportive of any gardening vision.

Her knowledge and enthusiasm really inspired me to take the leap to expand my garden (a couple times) and really jump into home gardening.”

“I still cannot believe I have this garden!”

Micha T.

“Lauren made all my gardening dreams come true.”

“From the very start she was kind and open to my ideas. She helped create a space that highlighted my desire for veggies, flowers and privacy that we can really enjoy!

I will ALWAYS use her for my gardening needs!”

Sheridan W.

GROWING FOOD & CREATING YOUR PERSONAL SPACE IS A LIFELONG ENDEAVOR

Because of this, I strive to blend all of our deliverables with 1:1 education that empowers you to continue into the future!

I use my experience to help you start in an attainable way — helping you budget, understand the best location, grow a lot in a little space, and keeping you from regrettable decisions.

Floricult functions as a partner and collaborator to help you take the next step. You can hire us by the hour to plant with you, shop with you, learn how to prune, or brainstorm ideas on your property. We also offer year-long partnerships to “project manage” your property so that you learn how to care for it yourself!

Getting started can be overwhelming. My best advice is to pick one small project and just do it. I’ll do it with you.

FAQs

  • Yes! Consultations can be used to kick off the beginning of a turnkey design and install process with the Floricult team, or to ask questions and brainstorm before you begin a new project on your own.

  • Everything we do is designed to support the natural, cyclical, self-sustaining processes of the earth. We will never use herbicides or pesticides on your property, and exclusively work with organic biologicals for fertilizers and soil amendments. Many products on the market today disrupt the biology of the soil food web in addition to having a negative impact on your plant’s health and your personal health. Our goal is to help you build your soil and plant selections to reduce their reliance on any outside inputs!

  • Everyone loves a low-maintenance property. Native perennials and regional heirlooms are best for achieving that. They also support your local wildlife, the health of your soil, and our local independent growers operating in a shrinking market.

During the 70’s and 80’s, imported ornamental varieties took over the gardening world and has put a strain on our bird and insect population. It has introduced foreign bacterias and invasive issues, and resulted in high-maintenance gardens that aren’t realistic for our busy lives.

We primarily plant native perennials so that you can water less, fertilize less, and enjoy more.

  • Usually yes! We encourage participation when it comes to yard maintenance, site prep, planting, mulching, and other tasks. Because we care about your safety, we do not collaborate on bed builds or projects requiring machinery (leveling, etc). We will ask you to sign a waiver — and your kids are also welcome, as long as you are responsible for their safety.

  • In addition to gardening since I was 9, I am a Certified Community Garden Leader in Forsyth County, am pursuing a Horticulture program, and have completed Dan Pearson’s Naturalist Garden Design course. I am an avid researcher and pay special attention to soil science, the soil food web, and perennials native to the Southeast.

I have helped create over 30 gardens here in Winston-Salem, and continue to grow produce for my neighborhood, save seeds, and write a weekly garden newsletter. I also teach classes on garden planning, soil science, and starting seeds indoors.

I’ve been featured on WXII, have taught at Reynolda Gardens, and probably answered your bff’s gardening Q’s on Instagram.
